Potential Energy | Why the floor is actually a launchpad

Last week, I invited you to hit the ground and… stay there with me for a minute.

I’m practicing what I preach this month, taking my work “load” off and focusing on recalibrating. To the “New Year, New You” crowd, that looks like doing nothing.

To me, it looks like Potential Energy.

In physics, potential energy is the energy stored in an object because of its position or state. Think of a heavy spring being compressed (or a light spring like in a jack in the box!), or a barbell sitting in a rack. On the outside, it looks still. On the inside, it is vibrating with the capacity for work.

Most people fail their New Year’s goals by February 1st because they try to create kinetic energy (movement/sprint/overhaul) without any potential energy (structure/foundation) to draw from.

They are trying to fire a cannon from a canoe.

If your system is unorganized, if your “inside space” is cluttered and your “outside space” is chaotic, adding load won’t make you stronger. It will make you break faster.

This is why, as I’m resting this month, I’m actually doing a systemic audit. I’m asking the questions that most people are too busy new year, new me-ing to ask…

  • Is my suspension system secure? Do I have the internal support I need? Are my organs, spine, and pelvic floor working as a Well-Hung System™, or am I just sagging into my ligaments and connective tissues?
  • Where are the power leaks? When I move, am I actually recruiting my whole system, or am I just overworking my neck and hip flexors because they’re the loudest people in the room?
  • Am I pointing in the right direction? Literally. You know what I’m going to say next:  Alignment is everything. If you missed the podcast on why it matters where your vagina is pointing, CLICK HERE.

My goal is to slowly load and not slowly burn out.

By taking the time to “un-load” in January, you are building the capacity for big moves from February onward. You are ensuring that when you eventually pick up the heavy things, your body has the integrity to handle them with ease.

Build the potential energy you need to make the moves you wanna make.

This week, I challenge you to look at your stillness not as an absence of work, but as the accumulation of power. Tighten your hooks. Organize your architecture. Get your system Well hung ← See what I did there?

The heavy lifting is coming. Let’s make sure you’re ready for the demand.

As always, I’ve got your back, your front, and your undercarriage.

xo, Alissa

P.S. Ready to organize your team’s trajectory? If your organization is currently firing cannons from canoes, let’s move to solid ground. I’m booking movement workshops and speaking engagements for Spring 2026 where I teach leadership teams how to build systemic integrity before they hit the peak-season load. Email me to start the conversation.
