05: “FAILING” MOTHERHOOD

Did you know…

…sometimes sex doesn’t lead to pregnancy?

I know. Mind blowing. Because we are taught that it’s so easy to get pregnant, bananas need to wear condoms.

But the truth is, it’s kinda hard.

There’s some very real precision required.

And sometimes it just doesn’t happen.

Did you know…

…having a belly birth can delay the hormonal reactions needed to begin the lactation process?

A vaginal birth sets off the release of certain hormones signaling the birthing person’s body to start the lactation process.

A belly birth (cesarean) may not trigger the same hormonal dominos and can disrupt or delay these reactions.

That doesn’t mean that if the baby didn’t come out of your vagina you can’t lactate.

It means we all need to learn about the effects a belly birth has on your hormonal responses. This way, if you are looking to lactate, breast feed, bodyfeed, nurse, you know what you need to know to stimulate your body’s response.

Since I am not a lactation expert, I suggest you meet with a lactation consultant, childbirth expert, midwife, or OBGYN to get the information you need to be prepared.

I need you to know this is something that happens because I have worked with far too many new moms who didn’t know. Who felt they were failures and shouldn’t be mothers because they struggle feeding their babies with their bodies.

You are not a failure and your baby picked you. Because you’re you.

Did you know

…this week’s podcast guest is one of my longest standing clients, dearest friends, and a complete failure at motherhood.

Yea, you heard me.

She has two beautiful sons and according to “them,” whoever “they” may be, she is a failure at motherhood.

If there’s a way to fail, she’s failed it.

Turns out I failed a lot too.

Check it out and let me know how you’ve failed too.
