17: RADICAL MOTHERHOOD
What does normal mean?
Who decided what path was right for all of us?
How in the world could there be one answer when humans are so diverse, faceted, and unique?
I don’t know who made these decisions, but I know it wasn’t me.
This shows up in every stage of life, and becoming a mother changes everything. You question everything, you are challenged in the most challenging ways, and this shift is radical.
And the moment you start to feel comfortable and get your bearings, everything changes again.
Motherhood demands radical change.
Because when it comes to motherhood, there is nothing that can prepare you. Not even a board certification in pediatrics.
Ariana Witkin AKA Mama MD is a Pediatrician, Postpartum Coach and Motherhood Mentor. She started her business after the birth of her daughter and experiencing firsthand the lack of coordinated care and support for new mothers. Her medical training did not prepare her at all for postpartum.
When she isn’t educating, empowering and holding space for new mamas you can find her examining Massachusetts’ newest and cutest residents in her local community hospital, chasing after her sassy toddler, spinning on her Peloton, or stargazing on the deck with her husband.
She is a board-certified pediatrician and completed her pediatric residency at University of Washington, Seattle Children’s Hospital. She has contributed to Glamour, VeryWell Family and Business Insider, amongst others.
