This isn’t my first marriage. This isn’t my first podcast. And this isn’t my first blog. 

But this doesn’t mean this isn’t special. That our connection isn’t real. That we aren’t here for the right reasons. Because all of that is true. It’s like I told Jeremy before our wedding, “While this isn’t my first wedding or marriage, this is our first wedding and marriage.”

I started my first blog on March 22, 2008 in York, PA where I was teching the national tour of Nickelodeon’s Backyardigan’s Live. It’s called Going Big Across America and is still live on blogspot.com. 

I started that blog while touring the country on my first national tour. It was a way to keep my family and friends updated on what life on tour was like, where I was, and what I was doing. I LOVED having a blog. And each time I went on tour I’d pop back onto blogspot and get it going again. I distinctly remember my brother telling me how much he enjoyed it and that I should keep my blog going. And I think I meant to, but life got busy and now here I am. 

Kicking off this blog.

In a recent conversation with Jason Feifer, Editor in Chief of Entrepreneur and author of Build For Tomorrow, and he shared the #1 question that supports any endeavor…

What is this for? Such a great question, right?

Over the past few years I’ve created a lot of things. At times they seemed disparate, or unrelated, but I also knew and know that they are all connected. Not just because everything is connected (insert eye roll if needed), but because they are all coming from me. They may radiate out in different directions, they are all built on the same foundation and that is what I’ve really been thinking about and working to articulate. That central foundation. 

Which is me, Alissa Alter, sure. But it’s bigger than just me. For example, you reading this, aren’t radiating from me. You are the center and the foundation of what you are creating. Which now overlaps or connects with me because we are here together. Yet, we will remain distinct in our connection. 

I’m sure my answer will grow and change – because let’s be real, everything does! So for now, my answer to the question “What is this for?” is that this blog is for exploring the intersections…

…of my work.

…of us.

…of myself.
